In what was one of the most significant events of the 20th century, Operation Neptune, the largest seaborne and airborne operation in history, delivered onto the beaches and surrounding areas of Normandy, France, thousands of men as part of Operation Overlord.
D-Day, 6 June, 1944 marked the beginning of the end of World War Two in Europe with the establishment of a bridgehead in France through which millions of allied personnel and their associated materiel would pass during the next few months.
Today, Normandy's historic D-Day sites, many still bearing the scars of battle from 1944, are visited each year by millions of tourists of all nationalities.
In addition to the historic D-Day sites, there are many museums and monuments dedicated to the events of 1944 and of course, the very moving cemeteries where so many were laid to rest.
Normandy Getaways at Mis Harand offers guided tours of the British, US and Canadian sectors and a 'personalised' one-off tour service for guests at the B&B.
Walkers, hikers and cyclists will find themselves spoilt for choice, Normandy has some 3000km of trails and
hundreds of kilometers of 'Greenlane' and road routes to choose from.
With the fabulous Forêt-de-Cerisy close by, guests can enjoy exploring the many trails within or take
one of the planned routes through the surrounding area ranging in length and duration from 1hr/3.5km to 5hr/14km.
It will come as no surprise that cyclists in France are very well catered for with a multitude of road routes for hardened racers to special 'green way' routes designed for more relaxed family cycling.
After all, this is the home of the renowned Tour de France which often runs sections through parts of Normandy each year.
If you plan to explore the forest, we are happy to provide lifts to and from the outskirts and if you expect to be out all day, why not pre-order one of our 'Packed Lunches' to enjoy along the way.
